MC Sermon Discussion Questions

Sermon Discussion Questions From 6.22.25 -- The Great Exchange (Pastor Chris Barbee)
Sermon Text: Luke 23:1-25
Overview:  In Luke 23, we see the most unjust trade in history: Jesus, innocent and blameless, is condemned so that Barabbas—a known criminal—can walk free. This great exchange isn’t just a moment in history; it’s the heart of the gospel. Like Barabbas, we are the guilty ones, yet Jesus willingly takes our place so we can be forgiven and set free.
Discussion Questions:
  1. How does the idea of "The Great Exchange" challenge the way you see your own worth and God’s grace?
(What does it mean that Jesus took your place, even though you were the guilty one?)
  2. Why do you think the crowd chose Barabbas over Jesus? What does this reveal about the human heart?
  3. Have you ever been falsely accused or misunderstood? How does Jesus' response to injustice shape how we should respond?
  4. Romans 3 says God is both “just and the justifier.” What does that mean, and why is it essential to the gospel?
  5. What would it look like in your life this week to walk in the freedom Jesus gave you through His sacrifice?
